Russian court deciding whether to hold all 8 remaining Greenpeace activists; 22 already jailed

MOSCOW –  A court in the northern Russian city of Murmansk has sent another Greenpeace activist to jail for two months over a protest at a drilling platform in Arctic waters.

Last week, the court ordered 20 activists and two journalists jailed pending an investigation, but put off the hearings for the remaining eight activists until Sunday.

Dmitry Litvinov, who has dual U.S. and Swedish citizenship, was the first to have his case heard.

No charges have been brought against any of the activists. Russian prosecutors are considering whether to charge them with piracy, among other offenses.

The Russian Coast Guard disrupted the activists' attempt to scale the oil platform on Sept. 18. The next day, they seized Greenpeace's ship, the Arctic Sunrise, and towed it with the crew aboard to Murmansk.
