NEW DELHI – A court has awarded the daughters of an Indian maharaja his $4 billion estate after ruling that a will putting the fortune into a trust run by his former servants is a forgery.
The ruling is the culmination of a decades-long fight with all the makings of a best-selling thriller.
The Maharaja Harinder Singh Brar of Faridkot was crowned as a toddler and in old age fell into a depression after losing his only son.
His daughters said that palace officials schemed to usurp the ailing royal's billions by forging a will.
After his death, the princesses were given allowances of a few dollars a month under the will instead of palaces, gold, vintage cars and vast lands they said was their birthright. The court invalidated the will last week
