CAIRO – Egypt's state TV says an explosive device has gone off in a residential area in eastern Cairo but caused no injuries or damage.
The report says Tuesday's blast took place near a school in the Nasr City district.
The TV had no details on the device or who was behind the explosion. Militant attacks in Cairo have been on the rise since a popularly-backed coup ousted Islamist President Mohammed Morsi in July.
Also Tuesday, Egypt's military spokesman announced that special forces have killed a key militant from an al-Qaida-linked group in northern Sinai Peninsula, where the army has been battling Islamic militants.
Col. Ahmed Mohammed Ali says the militant, Selmi Zayed or Abu-Khaled from Ansar Jerusalem, was behind the killings of 16 Egyptian soldiers in Sinai last August.
